BRADENTON - St. Stephen's fell to Tampa Prep (25-2-2) 3-2 Friday, squandering a 2-1 lead with 10 minutes left.
"It's heartbreaking to lose like this," St. Stephen's Marc Hartmann said. "This was our year, and it just didn't work the way we planned it to."
Devin Dedrick's shot looked innocent. The Terrapin lobbed it into the air after a through ball went over a large group of players and landed on his foot on the back side. Dedrick caught keeper Chandler Whidden in a change of direction, and nobody was there as it landed in the back of the net. Three minutes later, Travis Simmons put in the winner when another through ball skipped to the far side and found him wide open for the shot.
