Pinellas County commissioners gave the go-ahead Tuesday to start designing Phase 2 of a project to widen Starkey Road.

The county has long planned to widen Starkey starting at Tyrone Boulevard, where it's called Park Street, and ending at East Bay Drive in Clearwater. The project's four phases are expected to cost about $113-million. They are scheduled to be completed in 2015 or 2016.

Phase 2 involves the section of Starkey from Bryan Dairy Road to Ulmerton Road.
