The East Lake High School Key Club, a high school service club sponsored by the Countryside Clearwater Kiwanis Club, joined forces with the Kiwanis Club of the Palm Harbor Area to put on a fundraising pancake breakfast Jan. 27 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in East Lake. The event was run by Key Club president Jade Futhey. Other participating Key Club members were vice president Roshni Hira, Key Club Dad Gary Lyp, ninth-grade representative Janell Gregor, historian Jamie Gregor, editor/historian Victor Florence, secretary Even Prado, Jayasi Duggirla, Brittany Lyp, Ryan Holm, Jennifer Dipietro, Kellie Brooke, Kelsey Flannery, Jordana Lipkin, Rachel Valchine, Joshua Lipkin, Nicolle Brennan, Paige Stimmel, and Brittany Costanza. Countryside Kiwanis Club members assisting with the fundraiser were president Dick Luce, Mary Jo Schurman, Bill Greer, Marion Spengler, and Dan Palmisano. Participating Palm Harbor Kiwanis Club members included president Jack Keiler, John Burnham, Royal Eckstein, Carl Heifetz, Dwayne Young, Chuck Winscott, Gordon Lovett and fiancee Melissa Hartinger, and John Papuga. The event earned more than $425 to benefit the American Cancer Society. * * * Old Fort Harrison Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 2473 in Clearwater celebrated its 75th anniversary Feb. 2 with a catered dinner at the post home, 1401 N Hercules Ave. Pins were awarded for memberships ranging from five years to 30 years, and a certificate was read from the national organization commending the auxiliary on 75 years of continuous service to veterans and the community. * * * The Kiwanis Club of Tarpon Springs needs donations of used cell phones to raise funds for upcoming projects. The phones will be recycled in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency regulations or refurbished and reused. All cell phone models will be accepted at the Panera Bread and Publix at the Tarpon Mall shopping plaza at U.S. 19 and Tarpon Avenue in Tarpon Springs. Donations may be tax-deductible. The special event program will be "Thoroughly Modern Missy," featuring actress Nan Colton. Cost is $18 with free valet parking. Call (727) 585-2478. * * * Clearwater's Turner Brandon American Legion Post 7 recently presented a $500 grant and $1,000 check to disabled Iraqi veteran and local resident Brandon Bopko and family. Bopko's award was funded by part of the $500,000 from The Coalition to Salute America's Heroes to the American Legion, so that the legion, which is the nation's largest veteran's organization, could award grants to disabled veterans across the nation who served in Iraq or Afghanistan.
