Uplands the focus of 'Wild Wednesday'

Pasco County Parks and Recreation presents "A Wild Wednesday," at Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park. The presentation includes Mary Barnwell of the Southwest Florida Water Management District, who will discuss uplands habitat. The event will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Starkey Environmental Education Center, 10500 Wilderness Park Blvd. Call 727 834-3474 for more information.
Learn more about Girl Scouts on Saturday
Learn more about Girl Scouts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at six locations throughout Pasco County. Girl Scouts of West Central Florida will provide activities, including games, crafts, songs and service projects for girls of all ages. All girls and adults - potential and current volunteers, parents/guardians, and current girl and adult Girl Scouts - are invited.
The event will provide answers to common Girl Scout questions, give information about joining and help people learn about the Girl Scout program. Appraiser will discuss ownership issues
Pasco Property Appraiser Mike Wells will speak at the following locations regarding property values, homestead exemption, Amendment 1 and other subjects of interest to property owners. A question-and-answer period will follow. The dates and locations are as follows:

Minnesota Gophers hold annual meeting
The annual gathering of Minnesota Gophers will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Zephyrhills Woman's Club, 38459 Fifth Ave. Registration starts at noon, followed by a covered dish dinner. Craft day, squadron reunion coming soon
Craft day at the Depot Museum will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at 9110 South Ave. in Zephyrhills. The theme is "Buttons and Bows." Learn techniques for making bows and share ideas for decorating with old buttons. Bring button boxes and leftover ribbon.
The 10th Fighter Squadron Reunion and second annual Bivouac and Barracks will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Federal workers mark Valentine's Day
Chapter 390 of the National Active or Retired Federal Employees will celebrate Valentine's Day at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church, 6040 Eighth St. in Zephyrhills. Building group to hold shooting tournament
The Pasco Building Association will hold its sixth annual Sporting Clay Tournament from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at Deer Creek Sporting Clays, 10514 Ehren Cutoff Road, in Land O' Lakes. Each team will consist of four shooters. Cost will be $100 per shooter, which includes 100 targets. A limited number of guns will be available for rent and there also will be a women's division. Raffles and an awards ceremony will be held after the tournament. Sponsored by the Land O'Lakes Branch Library and SCORE, the free "Small Business Record Keeping and Intro to QuickBooks" seminar will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Land O' Lakes Branch Library, 2818 Collier Parkway. SCORE counselors Ellie Hollis and Dick Bendtzen will cover what records must be kept and what records must be generated for managing the finances of a small business.
They will present effective ways to track inventory as well as dealing with banking and accounts receivable and accounts payable procedures. Also included is a basic introduction to QuickBooks, the popular automated business record keeping system. Each participant will use QuickBooks during the seminar and will receive a "Simple Start Free QuickBooks Starter Edition." Smoke-free bingo, dance on tap for week
The Knights of Columbus, Father Farrell Council 6476, offers nonsmoking bingo at 1 p.m. today. Lunches are available as the doors open at 11 a.m. The hall is at 2040 Grand Blvd., in Holiday.

Honorary Mayor hopeful throws dance
Debra Kaplan of Under the Palms Ministry invites the community to a Parent/Child Dinner Dance from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Seven Oaks Clubhouse, 2910 Sports Core Circle, inside the Seven Oaks Community. This event will be her second fundraiser for the Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber's Honorary Mayor race. Families can enjoy an evening of dancing, featuring entertainment by DJ Anglada of Finest Events. Attendees will receive gifts provided by PartyLite and Hide'Em in Your Heart. Each parent/child pair is $35 and all money raised throughout Kaplan's run for Honorary Mayor will be donated to the Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber's Honorary Mayor race provides a fun way for local business members to give back to the community. Campaign funds provide support for a number of local programs, including scholarships presented to area high school students each year.

New ACTION Civitan Club seeks members
The Heritage ACTION Civitan Club is now forming in the Lacoochee area, with plans to meet at the Christian Edge Coffeehouse, at U.S. Highway 301 and State Road 575. The club will serve Lacoochee as well as the other communities in the northeast portion of Pasco County. The club is chartering as an ACTION Civitan Club.
ACTION stands for Active Citizens Taking Initiative On Needs, which means the club will be involved in projects that address needs of those that are unable to do for themselves or do not have the resources to do so.
