Lutherans will welcome pastor on March 2

The joint Lutheran churches of Garden of Peace and Holy Comforter have a new pastor, the Rev. John R. Thompson. His installation will take place at 3:30 p.m. March 2 at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Comforter, 10255 Paradise Blvd.

ST. PETERSBURG

Baptists to stress heart health Sunday

Rock of Jesus Missionary Baptist Church, 3940 18th Ave. S, is holding a Go Red Sunday at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. During February, American Heart Month, some churches and faith-based organizations hold heart-health awareness activities. At Rock of Jesus, the congregation is being encouraged to wear red, and the Rev. Frank Peterman will include a message about heart health from the pulpit. The church's exercise room will be open, and members will be invited to join the walking team. Healthy snacks will be served.

ST. PETERSBURG

Episcopalians can enjoy choral services

Choral Evensong for the second Sunday in Lent will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 3747 34th St. S. On the third Sunday of Lent, Choral Evensong will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 24 at St. Vincent's Episcopal Church, 5441 Ninth Ave. N.

Both services will be sung by Concordia, a 12-voice St. Petersburg vocal ensemble that specializes in early music. Conductors are Mari Reive and Philip Johnson, and the guest organist will be Roberta Poellein. Music will include works by Orlando Gibbons, Maurice Greene, William Byrd and Henry Purcell.
