Native American powwow at buffalo ranch

BROOKSVILLE
The Dancing Buffalo Ranch will host a Native American Intertribal Pow-Wow from 9 a.m. to dusk today through Sunday at 18250 Wiscon Road. Admission is $2; children 5 and younger will be admitted free. There will be lectures on American Indian history, performances with the Native American Intertribal dancers and singers, native crafts booths, food, face painting, storytelling, games and native dancing. Visitors also can see the buffalo and their young at the ranch. No pets, coolers, weapons or firearms will be permitted. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Learn natural landscaping
The 2008 Florida-Friendly Landscaping Grow Smart Workshop and Natural Landscaping Expo will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at the SNPJ Lodge, 13383 County Line Road. The program will be presented by the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service/Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Program, Southwest Florida Water Management District and Hernando County Utilities Department. There will be door prizes, refreshments and educational materials. The cost is $10. Registration is limited and will be accepted on a first-paid, first-registered basis through Feb. 22. The annual Bowl For Kids' Sake to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters will be at 1 p.m. May 3 at Mariner Lanes, 3544 Mariner Blvd. Teams of five bowlers are needed for the event. All bowlers are asked to raise a minimum of $120 each. All donations are tax deductible. Have dinner with St. Joan group
The St. Joan of Arc Squires will host a dinner at 5 p.m. March 1 at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church hall, 13485 Spring Hill Drive. Dinner will include ziti with meatballs, salad, bread and dessert. Door prizes will be awarded. Tickets are $6.
