DADE CITY A 68-year-old man died Wednesday night when the car he was riding in was struck by a sport utility vehicle about 8:15 p.m., Dade City police said. Several witnesses said the SUV did not have its lights on, Dade City Sgt. James Walters said. The crash happened at the entrance of an IHOP restaurant on U.S. 301, just south of downtown. Linda Abney was southbound in a Toyota car, turning in to the restaurant. Robert Abney was in the passenger seat. The Toyota was struck by a northbound Ford SUV, driven by Joseph Jeffries of Dade City, Walters said. Robert Abney died at the scene. Walters said Robert Abney was wearing a seat belt but neither driver was. No charges have been filed. The investigation continues. PORT RICHEY Pipe break brings boil water notice City officials issued another boil water notice Thursday, this time for residents of Milo Lane. A news release from the city says about five homes on Milo Lane lost water pressure after maintenance crews had to turn off the water main to repair a break at an empty lot next to 8614 Milo Lane. Officials say a tree root punctured the line. Residents on Milo Lane are advised to boil their drinking and cooking water until tests show the water is safe to drink. This generally takes about three days. Earlier this week, city workers had to repair a water main in the West Port subdivision after a rock punctured a water line. About 25 homes in that neighborhood were put on a boil water notice.
