The Seffner Christian girls' basketball team knew its region final game against Sarasota Christian would be a tough one. Sarasota beat Seffner by 31 in last year's playoffs and edged the Crusaders in a close game earlier this season.
In the region final, Seffner gave its best effort and held a fourth-quarter lead, but came up short, losing 54-47. The game was delayed for more than an hour due to a scheduling mistake regarding the officials.
Once the game started, Seffner jumped out to a 9-2 lead.
Sarasota responded, slowly building a 10-point lead in the third quarter.
Facing a double-digit deficit, Seffner wouldn't quit. The Crusaders fought back in the fourth, gaining the lead temporarily.
Sarasota's experience played a big role down the stretch, as Seffner made costly turnovers and let the game slip away.
"Our girls played hard all game," Seffner coach Greg Fawbush said. "They didn't quit and gave it everything they had. We gave it our best and wouldn't do anything differently."
Arielle Jadlowski and Jenny Moorer played great for Seffner Christian and led the team with 14 points apiece.
Ashley Schubel also contributed, scoring 12 points for the Crusaders.
