Hall to the Hall
Former Saint Leo first baseman Trevor Hall is a member of the 2008 Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame class, commissioner Michael J. Marcil announced last week.
The induction ceremony will be held June 14 at the Walt Disney World Hilton. Hall also is being inducted into the Saint Leo Athletic Hall of Fame on March 27.
He was a four-year starter, a three-time all-Sunshine State Conference selection and a two-time all-South Region selection. He is among the SSC's top 10 in career RBIs (212), home runs (36) and doubles (61), and is tied for 13th with 269 hits. He holds Saint Leo career records for RBIs, home runs, doubles and games played (209).
Goodwin to sign
Gulf senior midfielder Alyssa Goodwin, who helped guide the Bucs to a 17-win season this winter, will sign Wednesday with Division II Georgia Southwestern State, Bucs coach Shari Schau announced.
Goodwin totaled six goals and seven assists as a senior for Gulf, which finished 17-9-1 and advanced to the Class 4A, District 8 tournament semifinals.
She'll become the second Bucs female in as many weeks to sign with a college, joining soccer teammate Devin Fellman, who signed a softball scholarship last week with St. Petersburg College. Georgia Southwestern, located in Americus, competes in the Peach Belt Conference.
Mitchell's Stager out indefinitely
Mitchell lost more than a 5-4 game to district rival Countryside. Mustangs catcher Courtney Stager broke a knuckle on her throwing hand after a collision at home plate when she was trying to score.
The FSU signee is wearing a cast that could be off in three weeks, coach Scott Bisbe said, though she could miss up to six. Stephanie Palazzolo will play in her place.
"I'm hoping (Stager) gets back for senior night," Bisbe said. "I don't think it's a bad fracture that's going to affect her in the future."
