Bowler joins elite club with 847 in scratch series

Ryan Erbe joined one of the most elite bowling lists in Hernando County history Jan. 28.

Competing in the Coca-Cola Classic League at Mariner Lanes, the 19-year-old completed the fifth-highest scratch series in county history with a pin total of 847. Only Jason Mahr 878, Jay Olsen (855), Joe Correa (855) and David Lee (848) have ever thrown a higher series in county annals.

Erbe was joined by another 19-year-old bowling prodigy.

Brandon Curley tossed his second career perfect game Feb. 2 in the Spring Hill Youth Elite League at Spring Hill Lanes. Curley is currently averaging 213 in the league."

Erbe, who also has a baseball scholarship at Pasco-Hernando Community College, is averaging 234, the second highest average in the county.

Softball: Teams in the West Hernando Athletic League for Seniors faced off Feb. 9 and 11, producing some high-scoring games.

Moose Lodge No. 521 defeated Good Shepherd 16-4 in the first game on Feb. 9, while American squeaked past Suncoast Orthopedic 16-13.

Then on Feb. 11, American Legion dominated C's Pub 12-4 and Suncoast Orthopedic downed Elks Lodge 2582 17-5.

MORE BOWLING: Leisure Lanes Bowling Alley, at 12529 U.S. 19 in Hudson, will host the United States Bowling Congress Bowling Association Handicap and Scratch Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Signup is an hour before the noon to 4 p.m. shift. The tournament will incorporate Leisure Lanes' 40 new synthetic lanes and premier scoring system. For more information, call (727) 868-0204.

KARATE: Ingram's Karate Center is offering a Women's Self-Defense Course, focusing on practical real-life techniques designed and taught by women. The class is for all ages, and nonkarate students are welcome.

Tennis: Ace Performance Tennis in Spring Hill is now offering Ladies Night Out, a social way for beginning and intermediate women to sharpen their tennis skills. The first class was Feb. 6 at 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and are $10 each or four for $35.

Ace Performance is also offering Homeschool Tennis, an opportunity for homeschoolers to learn tennis. There are two classes per week:

- Monday mornings at Delta Woods Park, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

- Thursday mornings at Brooksville Country Club, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
