Northside plans review of Dare

Northside Christian is reviewing its decision to remove Bob Dare as football coach and vice principal/dean of students at the school.

Lynwood Heiges Jr., chairman of the Northside Christian school board, e-mailed parents, saying the board "is taking additional action to fully look into this issue with the ultimate objective of bringing this entire matter to a prompt, credible and successful conclusion."

The board hopes to conclude its review on or before March 15. Dare declined to comment.

Woods reaches 1,000 points

Pinellas Park's Jesse Woods topped the 1,000-point plateau in last week's region quarterfinal victory over Middleton. Woods, a four-year starter, entered the game needing three to reach the career milestone.

Younger signs with SPC

Clearwater's Tim Younger signed with St. Petersburg College. The right-hander was a first-team, all-conference selection with an ERA of 1.75 and a batting average of .425

Best beyond the arc

Largo's Ben Patrick, Lakewood's Clifford Barren, St. Petersburg Catholic's Tracy Parks and Admiral Farragut Academy's Josh Burch were each district champions in the Florida High School Athletic Association's 3-point showdown. They all advanced to the region round of competition.

The statewide contest, in its second season, gives each shooter 45 seconds to shoot three racks of five balls each from designated 3-point spots on the floor. Each basket made counts as one point.

Correction

Pinellas County did have a state wrestling champion in 2005. Another time period without a title was given in Sunday's Times.
