Terra Mar Brazilian Steakhouse has opened for business at 6715 49th St. N after a prolonged buildout.

Starting in October 2007, owner Frank Louis Newman has been working on this latest Tampa Bay area "Rodizio" Brazilian restaurant, in which a variety of meats are cooked over an open flame with real wood charcoal and carved at the dining table.

Newman serves 14 kinds of meats, including chicken, pork, Brazilian sausage, lamb and filet mignon.

The restaurant opened earlier this month but is holding its grand opening Monday. Call 525-1100.

Crist to help kick off 2008 spring training

Gov. Charlie Crist is reviving the annual launch of Florida's baseball spring training season with the Governor's Baseball Dinner on Tuesday.

Crist will join Major League Baseball Commissioner Allan "Bud" Selig, Cal Ripken Jr. and fellow Hall of Fame member Wade Boggs, along with other special guests, at Tropicana Field to highlight more than a century of professional baseball across the state.

The event will honor the Tampa Bay Rays, the Florida Marlins and the 16 other teams that call Florida home for spring training, and more than 30 minor league teams that call Florida home. Baseball contributes an estimated $450-million to the state in economic impact, according to a survey originally published in 2000 and updated in 2005. The 2008 spring training season begins next week and continues through the end of March. Contact the Florida Sports Foundation at (850) 488-8347.
