Boys 2A hoops: Community School too tough for Blue Jackets

ST. PETERSBURG - Too much of Community School of Naples center Ross Gottschalk and just enough of guard Kyle Petersen spelled trouble and defeat as Admiral Farragut fell 55-42 Tuesday. "We just couldn't match shots with them and they did a great job handling the ball," Admiral Farragut coach Anthony Lawrence said. "We played solid defense but they hit shots at crucial times and we just weren't able to hit our shots when we needed to." The biggest moment came early in the third quarter after Admiral Farragut forward Hayden Buttner hit a 3-pointer to bring the Blue Jackets within 19-17. But Petersen hit a jumper to start a 10-0 run that included an inside basket by Gottschalk and two 3-pointers by Petersen. The Blue Jackets struggled to match the Seahawks the rest of the way as Community went to a spread offense in the fourth quarter to run time off the clock. Farragut made shots in the fourth quarter behind 3s from Buttner and Chris Myrick but Community hit free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Myrick led the Blue Jackets with 12 points while Gottschalk finished with a game-high 20. Chris Girandola, Times correspondent
