State of State set for shift to night

Gov. Charlie Crist will break with tradition March 4 when he gives the annual State of the State address at night in hopes of reaching a statewide TV audience. But his timing could pose a problem. Crist is aiming to give the speech at 6 p.m., a time when most stations are delivering a local newscast. The speech is traditionally delivered midday in the joint opening session of the Legislature. Crist said he got the idea from fellow governors last year. The last time a nighttime State of the State was given was 1991, the first year of Democrat Lawton Chiles' administration.
