Idol time: The Heather Golf and Country Club, 7406 St. Andrews Blvd., north of Weeki Wachee, will present its "Heather Idol" singing contest at 6 p.m. today. Tickets are $7 at the club office. Light food will be served, and a cash bar will be available. Call 596-5344.
Music variety: The Community Performing Arts Guild will present Red Hot Jubilee Jam at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at Mariner United Methodist Church, 7079 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. A limited number of free tickets remain for both shows. Call 544-1068.
Ragtime lives: Noted ragtime pianist Bob Milne will perform at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Forest Oaks Lutheran Church, 8555 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. A good read: The Hernando County Reading Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 1 at Nature Coast Technical High School, 4057 California St., south of Brooksville. Swamp thing: The 2008 Weeki Wachee Swamp Fest will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 1 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 2 at Linda Pedersen Park at Jenkins Creek, 6400 Shoal Line Blvd., Weeki Wachee.
