The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is searching for a disabled Spring Hill woman, Tara Valveri, who was last seen near Deltona Boulevard and Bay Drive in Spring Hill on Wednesday afternoon with a 45-year-old man, Glen Roberts. Valveri's mother reported that she had not seen or heard from her daughter since Saturday when Tara left a friend's house on Regatta Street. Valveri was seen at that time leaving the area in a mid 1990s white Buick Century driven by a Hispanic man known as "Jay." Anyone with information about Valveri is asked to contact Detective Morrell. Atkins named to Housing Authority
Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed Rosemary Atkins to the Hernando County Housing Authority. Atkins, 53, of Spring Hill, is an independent real estate contractor. She succeeds James Fisher. Her term runs through Aug. 1, 2009.
Orchestra to put on concert series
The Hernando Symphony Orchestra will present its winter concert series "Overtures" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hernando High School Performing Arts Center, 700 Bell Ave., Brooksville; and 2 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Springstead Theater, 3100 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. Sheriff's meeting requires signup
Monday is the deadline to register for the new homeowners meeting and informal discussion with Sheriff Richard Nugent and the Sheriff's Office, which will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Emergency Communications Operation Center, 18900 Cortez Blvd. Nugent will discuss programs that his office offers to county residents. Reading Festival scheduled March 1
The annual Hernando County Reading Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 1 at Nature Coast Technical High School, 4057 California St. Visitors can meet Mary Ann Cocca-Leffler, author of Jack's Talents and Mr. Tanen's Ties, who will give presentations at 10:30 a.m. and at noon. Book signings will follow presentations. Also participating will be Bay News 9 meteorologist Brian McClure, Tony the Balloon Guy and Jay Holt, author of The Adventures of Tommy the Tomato. Free goody bags will be given to the first 300 children. Admission and activities will be free. Food will be available for a price. Call 797-7018.
