Indian Rocks Christian 4, Calvary Christian 1
Noah Smith allowed no earned runs and struck out eight to pick up his first win, and brother Chase added the save to lead the host Golden Eagles past the Warriors (0-5) in the district opener for both teams.
J.L. Monson's triple in the third inning for the Golden Eagles(2-2) tied the score at 1, and they picked up a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to win it.
- Clearwater Central Catholic 9, Pendleton School 5
Visiting CCC exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to turn a 3-2 game into a runaway victory.
Ryan Weber gave up two first-inning runs but settled down to record his second victory against no losses. Weber went five innings and struck out four with a walk.
James Dowdell led off the game with a triple for CCC (4-1) and went 2-for-3.
- Boca Ciega 5, Palm Harbor University 3
Clinging to a 5-3 lead in the seventh and with two runners on for PHU, the Pirates held on for the victory when a relay throw from first baseman Brad McAllister to catcher Cody Hampton was in time to tag a Hurricanes runner for the final out.
Kyle Smith picked up his first victory for the host Pirates (2-1). Matt Miller tied it at 2 in the fifth inning with a two-run single after PHU (0-3) had taken a 2-0 lead in the third.
Softball
- Canterbury 2, Hernando Christian 0
Krissy Longstreet was an "all-star" for the visiting Crusaders, coach Jody Moore said.
Canterbury's starting pitcher allowed just three hits, no runs, had eight strikeouts and scored both runs.
"Defensively, I was very impressed with her," Moore said. "She gave up two doubles but didn't allow them to score."
Longstreet singled in the second and scored on a throwing error. She led off the fourth inning with a double and later came home on Jennifer Crosthwaite's RBI bunt.
Longstreet improves her record to 2-1, and Canterbury moves to 5-1.
- Northeast 15, Boca Ciega 6
Alexis Dillahunty (1-2) pitched seven strong innings with five strikeouts and one walk for the host Vikings.
Miranda Tener was 2-for-4 in for Northeast (2-3). The Pirates fell to 1-3.
- Dixie Hollins 3, Osceola 1
Dixie Hollins picked up an important district victory at home.
Camille Morgan improved to 4-1 after pitching seven innings and striking out 10 with five walks.
Dixie Hollins (4-1) scored two runs in the first inning to take control. Amanda Wright tripled and scored on Logan Ambrester's single. Kelsey Smith singled to bring Ambrester home.
Trailing by two in the seventh, Osceola (3-1) had two on with one out but couldn't take advantage, ending the game with consecutive flyouts to second and third.
