Lions get Saint Leo lacrosse going with a win

The Saint Leo lacrosse team opened its regular season with a win against Savannah College of Art and Design 16-4.

A rally in the third quarter put the game out of reach as the Lions scored 10 goals.

Leading the way for the Lions on the night were freshman Tommy Bryant, who scored three goals and junior Chris Storrie, who had two goals and assists. Eleven different players scored.

Goalkeeper David Erdman turned away 10 shots in 45 minutes to earn his first victory of the year.

Saint Leo attempted 53 shots while holding the Bees to only 20 throughout the game.

The Lions return to action Saturday, hosting No.4 Dowling at noon.

Bowling: With a three-match sweep, the Hudson Girls Bowling Team captured the travel league divisional championship on Feb. 5. During 19 weeks of competition, the squad picked up 124 of a possible 133 points and outlasted 20 teams formed from the Hudson, New Port Richey, Land O'Lakes and Wesley Chapel areas.

Coaches needed: The New Port Richey Pasco Athletic League needs cheerleading and football coaches for the 2008 season. Teams range in age from five to 16 years old. For information, contact 846-8712, 847-9394 or 848-1697.

Football and Cheerleading: The Hudson Police Athletic League is holding open registration for children ages 5 to 16.

Cheerleaders are encouraged to sign up early due to the number of outside competitions they will be attending.

Signups will be held at Beef O'Bradys located at Hudson and Little roads March 4 and April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. Another option is March 15 from 9 a.m. to 3p.m.

Signups will be at Arthur Engle Field (Denton Avenue). Two forms of residency, a birth certificate, a picture of the child and a Mapquest are required.
