Ryan takes second
Clearwater's Veronica Ryan finished second in the Class 5A finals of the Florida High School Athletic Association's 3-point contest.
With 45 seconds to shoot three racks of balls, Ryan, a sophomore, made six, good for a three-way tie for second place with Leesburg's Angie Felton and Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast's Jennifer Cruz.
Ryan secured the runnerup spot in the tiebreaker by making six more, one ahead of Felton and two ahead of Cruz.
Armwood's Megan Fitzpatrick won the 5A finals by swishing nine shots. Fitzpatrick joins Tampa Prep's Ayala Wasser 2A as the only two from the bay area who won titles.
Tickets go on sale for tonight's Class 5A region final between Lakewood and Pinellas Park at 5:30 p.m. at Pinellas Park. Both schools sold advance tickets to students on Friday.
