Anniversaries

The Coopers

Buster and Sarah Cooper celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Dec. 24, 2008. They were married Dec. 24, 1952, in New York City and moved here about 14 years ago from California.

Mrs. Cooper worked as a secretary in her native New York City and in California.

Mr. Cooper was born in St. Petersburg and is a trombonist. He performed around the world with the Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton and Woody Herman orchestras, and for the past 13 years has performed regularly at the Garden in St. Petersburg.

The Flads

Joe and Mary Flad celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Paradise Island in the Bahamas. They were married Feb. 1, 1958, at Kings Mountain Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, N.C.

Mr. Flad came here in 1940 from Pennsylvania and attended St. Petersburg High School. Mrs. Flad came here in 1958 from her native Kings Mountain. They were the owners of Diamond Printing Service from 1960 to 1979 and currently own Jomar Specialties Inc. They have three children and four grandchildren.

The Vollmers

Jack and Jeanne Vollmer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family members on a Caribbean cruise. They were married Feb. 8, 1958, at the Catholic church at Norfolk (Va.) Naval Station. They came here in 1997 as winter residents from Alton, Ill.

She worked in the Alton school system office for 22 years. He worked for UPS for 25 years and is a Navy veteran. They are members of St. Raphael's Catholic Church and have four children and five grandchildren.
