ST. PETERSBURG - The Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg will be slightly streamlined this year, with more back-to-back events, event organizers announced last week. In the biggest change in the schedule from previous years, the Acura Sports Car Challenge, the American Le Mans Series feature race, will be Saturday afternoon instead of Saturday evening. Qualifying for the Honda Indy St. Pete will begin shortly afterward. "After speaking with race fans after last year's event, we have consolidated our schedule and amplified our overall event experience this year," said Tim Ramsberger, vice president and general manager of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. "It really strengthens a great day of racing." The race, which is in its fourth year, will be held April 4-6. The weekend will feature the Honda Indy St. Pete on Sunday and two Indy Pro Series races. The event will be rounded out with air shows, drifting exhibitions and driver autograph sessions. Also new: Race fans who buy a pair of three-day reserved tickets to the Grand Prix will receive a 60-day free trial membership in the IndyCar Series DownForce Fan Club. Purchasers must mention the "DownForce" promotion when buying tickets. To get more information about the Grand Prix or to buy tickets, call (727) 898-4639.
