Utilities' office downtown is closed Monday

CLEARWATER

The Pinellas County Utilities' customer services walk-in office and telephone center in downtown Clearwater will be closed Monday for computer system upgrades. Customers may leave bill payments at the drop box in the parking lot just south of the utilities building at 14 S Fort Harrison Ave. Customers who need emergency assistance should call 464-4000. The main office will re-open at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Get creative with trash for show

Attention, budding fashion designers: Apply now to be in the first Trashy Fashion Show, where participants make their own clothes out of at least 75 percent recycled materials. Quilts on displayto honor blacks

In celebration of Black History Month, Clearwater City Hall is honoring the achievements of African-Americans with a display of quilts created by artist Anthony Jones. The quilts will be on display through March 28. The exhibit is free to the public in the building's lobby at 100 S. Osceola Ave. 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. DUNEDIN

League of Women to host candidates

The North Pinellas Chapter of the League of Women Voters will hold a candidate forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Mease Manor ballroom, 700 Mease Plaza. The Dunedin city elections are scheduled for March 11. Three candidates are vying for two open City Commission seats. Incumbents Julie Ward Bujalski and Vice Mayor Deborah Kynes face off with Arnold "Tony" Scruton, who is making his political debut. The top two vote-getters will fill the seats.

OLDSMAR

Class will explain how to run a city

Register now for the city's Citizens' Academy, an eight-session class that explains the complex task of running a municipality. The free class is open to Oldsmar residents 16 and older. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. every week starting April 3. The class will tour facilities, ride in city vehicles, create videos for Oldsmar cable television, review budgets and experience a simulated fire. Library to hold outdoor book sale
