Gulfside Regional Hospice is seeking volunteers. Training classes will be held from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday at 37826 Sky Ridge Circle in Dade City.
Volunteers are needed to help in all aspects of the hospice program including assisting caregivers, calling survivors, providing office assistance, working in Gulfside's Thrift Shoppes, cooking, assisting patients and families in the Gulfside Hospice Houses, and much more.

University of Florida/IFAS - Pasco County Extension faculty members Betsy Crisp and Jean Hink, along with program assistant, Caroline Shelton, recently provided an opportunity for local youth to use their creative minds and miscellaneous recyclable, recycled or throwaway items from around the house to compete for ribbons and prizes in the annual FCS/4-H Trash-to-Treasure contest. This year there were a total of 57 entries involving a total of 64 youth making this an all-time record for participation.
The contest was open to all youth from preschool through eighth grade. High school students were encouraged to enter the Art of Recycling contest.
Entries were judged by three volunteers and first, second, and third place winners will be displayed at the Pasco County Fair through today. Gift bags with prizes will be distributed to winners Tuesday through Friday when artwork is picked up from the Extension office, 36702 State Road 52, Dade City.
Farid Mughni from Genesis Prep School, New Port Richey, captured Best in Show for his creation, "Large Turtle," entered in the six- to eighth-grade category.
Winners in the kindergarten- to second-grade category were Taylor Galvin, first place; Michael Anderson, second place; and Faith Graves, third place. All three students are from Shady Hills Elementary School.
Capturing prizes in the three-five grade category were Tejada Cruz, first place; Monica Virgen, second place; and Luis Manriquea, third place. All three students are from Pasco Elementary School.
Winners in the sixth- to eighth-grade group were Tiffany Nicholson, first; Alex Falcone, second place; and Ryan Charpin, third place. Tiffany, Alex and Ryan are students at Genesis Prep.
In the group category for grades three to five, first place went to Catherine Parrabel and Gustavo Salavar from Pasco Elementary School. Second place was awarded to Jordon Collette, Matthew Agosti, Kevin Bjorkner, Mark Bjorkner, Holly Evenson, Sarah Evenson and Tony Ruth from the Wesley Chapel 4-H Park Rangers Club.
