LAKELAND - Tampa Prep guard Ayala Wasser placed fourth at the state's Queen of the Hill 3-point shootout Saturday night at the Lakeland Center. Armwood guard Megan Fitzpatrick took sixth.

The players advanced to the finals by winning district and region competition, then placing first in their classifications.

On Friday, Wasser won the Class 2A competition and Fitzpatrick earned the 5A crown by making 10 and nine 3-pointers, respectively.

Wasser, a junior, made seven of 15 shots Saturday, then won a tie-breaker for the fourth spot.

"It was a lot of fun," Wasser said.

Fitzpatrick, a senior, drained six 3-pointers.

"I definitely had a slow start, but it was awesome being here," Fitzpatrick said.

Boca Raton's Karolina Bazua won the event; she made 11 3's.

Rained out

The Gaither-Plant baseball game Saturday afternoon was rained out. Panthers coach Dennis Braun said it has been rescheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. at Plant.
