Today
Baseball, Plant (4-0) at Middleton (2-2), 7 p.m.: Plant is ranked 37th in Baseball America’s top 50; Middleton boasts a powerful lineup that includes slugger Jamie Mallard, who had two homers in a game last week.
Softball, Countryside (7-0) at Gaither (3-1), 7 p.m.: Countryside has scored more than 10 runs three times this season, with a high of 28.
Wednesday
Boys basketball, Brandon (24-4) vs. Lakewood (28-2), 8:30 p.m. at the Lakeland Center: The Eagles, who have never won a state title, are appearing in their first final four since 2000.
Friday
Baseball, Wharton (3-1) at Newsome (1-4), 7 p.m.: When Wolves left-handed pitcher Kris Castellanos took the mound last week, he struck out 18 King batters in six innings, one short of the county single-game record. How will Wildcats hitters, hoping to rebound from a shutout loss to Armwood, fare against him?
Baseball, Jesuit (4-0) at Plant (4-0), 7 p.m.: The diamond of the early baseball schedule, this game pits arguably the county’s top teams. The Panthers have outscored opponents 31-5, but the Tigers present their toughest challenge to date.
