Acclaimed irish tenor to perform

The Kiwanis Club of Homosassa Springs will present the Kiwanis Concert featuring Cahal Dunne at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Curtis Peterson Auditorium, 3820 W Educational Path.
Dunne is nationally known for his appearances on PBS and internationally known as an Irish tenor, songwriter and comedian.
Tickets are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Regions Bank branches in Citrus County, as well as from Kiwanis members.

Yacht Club to host yard sale on weekend
The Hernando Beach Yacht Club will have a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the club, 4163 Shoal Line Blvd.
The sale will have a variety of items such as 45 rpm records, tools, jewelry, crafts and housewares.

SPRING HILL
Green Screens feature free movie showings
The Hernando County Green Party will show the movie, Thank You for Smoking, at 6 p.m. Monday at the Spring Hill Branch/Harold G. Zopp Memorial Library, 9220 Spring Hill Drive.
Based on the novel by Christopher Buckley, this dark comedy stars Aaron Eckhart as Nick Naylor, the chief spokesman for the Academy of Tobacco Studies, mouthpiece for the tobacco industry who fights to keep America's right to smoke - even if it kills him - while remaining a role model for his 12-year-old son. The film also stars Robert Duvall, William H. Macy, Rob Lowe and Katie Holmes.
Also, due to popular demand, there will be a showing of the film Sicko at 1 p.m. March 6 at the library. This is Michael Moore's 2007 documentary that compares the American health care industry to other nations.
The films are part of the local Green Party's ongoing Green Screens program, a series of free films on current issues. Complimentary refreshments are served.
Other films in the Green Screens program include:
- An Unreasonable Man, 5:45 p.m. March 10. This is a documentary on the life and accomplishments of Ralph Nader.
- Fast Food Nation, 6 p.m. April 7. This is an ensemble piece examining the health risks involved in the fast food industry and its environmental and social consequences as well. The 2006 fictionalized film is loosely based on the nonfiction book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. The movie has a star-studded cast, including Greg Kinnear, Bruce Willis, Wilmer Valderrama, Ethan Hawk, Patricia Arquette and Kris Kristofferson.

Women's Guild to put on fashion show
The Women's Guild of Forest Oaks Lutheran Church will host a "Spring Into Fashion" show at 11 a.m. March 5 at the church, 8555 Forest Oaks Blvd.
The event will include a luncheon, followed by a fashion show by Bon Worth of Spring Hill, featuring spring and summer women's fashions.
There will be door prizes, gift certificates and other "surprises."

Artist's reception set March 5 for painter
The Spring Hill Art League and Easy Street Home Decor will host a wine and cheese artist's reception for Muriel Prieto from 7 to 9 p.m. March 5 at Easy Street, 838 E Jefferson St.
Prieto was born in New York and moved to Puerto Rico. After retiring from teaching at the University of Puerto Rico, she completed the North Light Art School Program in the fine art of painting and drawing in 1991. Since moving to Florida, she has continued her studies in painting with well-known instructors in the Tampa and Spring Hill areas. She paints landscapes, seascapes and portraits in oils and acrylics.

Guardian ad Litem volunteers needed
The Guardian ad Litem Program is seeking volunteers in Hernando County.
Free training will be offered March 13, 14, 21 and 22 at the Hernando County Recreation Department at 205 E Fort Dade Ave., Brooksville.
Guardian ad Litem volunteers are court-appointed to advocate for the best interests of abused, abandoned and neglected children. Volunteers donate just a few hours each month. Through the program, these Hernando County children are able to have their voices heard in the dependency court process.

La Sertoma Club plans fashion show March 8
The Hernando County La Sertoma Club will host the Spring Bouquet of Fashions Show March 8 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 10470 Spring Hill Drive. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
Lunch will be served and clothing and accessories will be presented by the local Fashion Bug store. There also will be door prizes and raffles.

This is the La Sertoma Club's major fundraiser for a college scholarship for a graduating senior in Hernando County, as well as to benefit needy organizations in the county.
Red Hatters to host craft fair March 14-15
The Holiday Spring Chix Red Hatters from Holiday Springs RV Resort will host a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 14 and 15 at the resort off County Line Road.

Lifestyle Expo set March 15 at armory
Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Citrus will host a Lifestyle Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15 at the Crystal River National Guard Armory, 8551 W Venable St.
The event will include food tastings and demonstrations, RV and car displays, drawings and more than 50 exhibitors showcasing a variety of items and services such as travel, home improvement, gardening and community resources.
Admission to the event is free.

St. Patrick's Day Dinner Dance planned
The Hernando Beach Club will host its annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner Dance on March 14 at the club, 3145 Flamingo Blvd.
The event will include music by Vintage, who will perform Irish favorites and music from the 1960s through today. A corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served. The highlight will be a parade of green.
