Student assignment plan sparks reflections

ST. PETERSBURG The Pinellas School Board approved a new student assignment plan for 2008-09. Join local educators and students as they reflect on their experiences at a forum at 7 tonight at Studio@620 620 First Ave S. "The ABC's of Race: A New Era of Segregation?" will be moderated by Ray Arsenault, professor of Southern history and co-director of the Florida Studies Program at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. The talk provides an opportunity for community leaders to discusssocial justice. Reception begins at 6 p.m. Free. Reservations are required. Call 895-6620. LARGO SPCA shelter offers free neuterings for 100 pets February is National Spay/Neuter month. The Largo animal shelter will offer 100 free surgeries to pets of people with limited income. The SPCA works with participating veterinarians to perform the procedure at an office near the applicant's home. Pet vaccinations and rabies shots are included. Applicants must apply in person with a recent 1040 form by Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SPCA, 9099 130th Ave. N. In addition, the SPCA's year- round Fix a Pit Program offers free spaying or neutering to all pit bullterriers and pit bull mixes regardless of owner's income. PETERSBURG St. Petersburg Catholic to hold sixth Baron Gala St. Petersburg Catholic High School will hold its sixth annual Baron Gala, "Treasures of the Sea," at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the St. John Bosco Center for the Arts, 6333 Ninth Ave. N. Dinner will be provided by Lee Roy Selmon's. Dance to the steel drums of Joseph Braccio. Live and silent auctions will be held. Donations of items for the auctions are being accepted.
