Library events
The Pasco County Library System's "Battle of the Bands XI: Rockus Maximus" will be at 6 p.m. March 28 at Crews Lake Park in Shady Hills. Eight qualifying bands will perform for 25 minutes, with each set including at least two original songs. The bands will be judged on stage presence, vocals, songwriting and general musicianship.
This year's battle has a new feature going on right now: video/online documentaries of each participating band on the library's MySpace Web site. Weekly episodes are posted and enable anyone in the world to watch the bands and vote for their favorite. A winner will be declared for each episode, with an overall champion announced at the end of the contest. - Parents of Pasco County students are asked to give feedback on their children's school by participating in an online survey. A paper version is also available at Pasco schools.
- March 7 is the deadline to register for the ACT on April 12. For information or to register, go to www.act.org.
- Wesley Chapel PTSA will host a Princeton Review combined SAT/ACT practice test from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 8. The cost is $20 per student. Refreshments will be provided. Open to all high school students (not just Wesley Chapel). To register, call (813) 794-8700.

Grades 7 and 8, first place,Laura Wang; second place: Maria Casillas;third place: Melissa Sabalaske and Melissa Colon (tie); fourth place,Tori Drum;honorable mention,Kiria Abreu-Jimenez.Eighth-grader Laura Wang went on to win the first-place trophy at the District Story Tellebration with the Native American Tale, Groundhog Dance.
