CROSS CREEK The city of Tampa, which plans to build another fire station in New Tampa, has narrowed its sights on two locations. The sites are located on Cross Creek Boulevard, within 4 miles of fire Station 21 on Green Pine Lane, said James Jackson, an architect for the city of Tampa. The first site is behind the gas station on Cross Creek near Quiznos and a French bakery. It's the more desirable one because it appears to have the space for both a station and a fuel center, Jackson said. The second option is just west of Morris Bridge Road near Publix. The city's real estate department is working on appraisals for both sites, Jackson said. The total cost of the project, including the price of the land, is estimated at $3-million to $4-million, Jackson said. They hope to have it built in about a year and a half. The fuel center would serve not only firetrucks, but city vehicles as well. Currently, the city has a fire station on Bruce B. Downs in Tampa Palms and the one on Cross Creek. "We're trying to keep up with the growth," Jackson said. Dong-Phuong Nguyen can be reached at 813 269-5312 or nguyen@sptimes.com.
