Sheriff sets hearing over negotiations
By Times Staff Writer
Published February 29, 2008
COUNTYWIDE Pasco Sheriff Bob White has set a hearing March 4 to force a resolution to the issues that have long stymied contract negotiations with the deputies union. One problem: the union doesn't plan to attend. White set the hearing in his role as the legislative authority over impasse issues. But the Fraternal Order of Police says the County Commission should be the final word in such disputes and has filed a lawsuit to that end. It's still pending. The union and White have been deadlocked for more than a year, unable to agree on a labor contract. The deputies want gap health insurance to cover members from the time they retire until Medicare kicks in, but White says it's too expensive. The union is also seeking greater rights to appeal in the discipline process, which White says is a power he should retain. NEW PORT RICHEY Breezes welcome at kite-flying event Go Fly A Kite! Family Kite Day will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park, 10500 Wilderness Road. Come enjoy a day outdoors and learn to make a kite. Free event. For information, call (727) 942-7439 or 943-5843. Correction The Timber Oaks retirement community has a tap dance group known as the Timber Oakettes. An item Tuesday incorrectly stated the group was offering classes. The item also incorrectly said the lessons were being taught by Betty Kuhnlohe, who is deceased. The Times regrets the error.

Gated Community safe? Jery your an idiot. As for Pasco Sheriffs Office, they are mostly a bunch of egotistical morons that can not properly charge or investigate anyone. A few are very good though. Oh sorry, they all quit and went somewhere else.

The FOP needs to drop the gap insurance for now, and just concentrate on the disciplinary issue. Fighting the Sheriff over gap insurance isn't going to work when they County Commissioners won't approve his budget...just beating a dead horse there

Of course the Sheriff wants the discipline to remain in his power. Then his Good 'Ol Boy Club can punish anyone they want, when they want.

Is the Sheriff concerned about something. Why not allow an outside arbitrator to make the decision. Is he the ruler and KING. Crime is up and unless you live in a gated community, you are in danger. Wake up Pasco.
