Pinellas softball: Times' Super 7
By Bryan Burns, Times Staff Writer
Published February 29, 2008
Records through Wednesday 1. Countryside (7-0): The Cougars, who have given up just six runs, held Tarpon Springs and Pinellas Park to one run each. 2. Tarpon Springs (6-1): The county's most surprising team, the Spongers are suddenly the favorite in 5A-9 after victories over East Lake and Palm Harbor University. 3. St. Petersburg Catholic (7-0): The Barons graduated Times pitcher of the year Deanna Henriott and replaced her with Chloe Saganowich, who is 7-0 with a microscopic 0.07 ERA. 4. Palm Harbor University (6-3):With two losses in district play, the Hurricanes' run of four straight district titles could be in jeopardy. 5. Pinellas Park (6-3): Sara Nevins has 99 strikeouts and is averaging nearly two an inning. Oh, and she bats .570 and is the county's second-leading hitter. 6. East Lake (5-4): Which East Lake team will show up tonight at Countryside? The one that lost district games to Tarpon Springs and Pinellas Park or the one that limited Seminole and PHU to one run total in two impressive victories? 7. Osceola (4-1): Despite a slipup at Dixie Hollins, the Warriors earn our final spot thanks to their 8-6 victory over Seminole last week.
