Business awards for beauty announced

SEMINOLE HEIGHTS

City Council member Mary Mulhern announced the winners of this year's Business Guild of Seminole Heights beautification awards last week.

Van Gogh Signs, 5020 N Florida Ave., received the judges award. When owners bought the 1935 gas station in 2005, the building was trashed.

They replaced the electrical system, air conditioning and floors, and patched holes in the roof. Tampa Financial Group took home the people's choice award for the restoration of a 1923 bungalow home on 301 E Sligh Ave.

Garden circle to learn to care for bromeliads

Moonlight Garden Circle meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tampa Garden Club, 2629 Bayshore Blvd. Master grower Tom Wolfe will discuss the care and maintenance of bromeliads.
