Packer wins 3-point shootout
Largo's Ben Patrick is the Class 5A 3-point shooting champ. The 6-foot-2 sophomore guard defeated three others Friday afternoon at the Lakeland Center to earn the title. He made 10 of 15 shots, including six straight at the end.
"I started thinking about my form on every shot," Patrick said. "When you're shooting, you don't even watch the balls go in. I was in a rhythm toward the end and I knew they were going in."
Bloomingdale guard Sean Hayes took second after making seven. As the 5A champion, Patrick will compete again today in the state's King-of-the-Hill shootout. Patrick and Hayes reached state by advancing through district and region competition.
Reed earns courage award
Lakewood's Reggie Reed received the Marines Honor Courage Commitment award. Reed, a senior, was nominated by his teammates. The criteria was to demonstrate leadership, show team spirit with a positive attitude and be considerate to teammates and opponents.
