Veterans invited to lead pledge at board meetings

Hernando County Commission Chairman Chris Kingsley has extended an invitation to veterans to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of County Commission meetings. The board meets at 9 a.m. on the first, third and fourth Tuesdays and the second Wednesday of each month at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville. Interested veterans should call Dianne Cox at 540-6453.

Yard sale, can drive benefit marine group
The Hernando Beach Marine Safety and Support Group will host an indoor yard sale starting at 8 a.m. March 15 at the Coast Guard Auxiliary, 4340 Calienta St. Donations of household goods, clothing and other salable items are appreciated. Items may be dropped off at the auxiliary building between 9 and 11 a.m. Monday and March 10. The Marine Safety and Support Group is a nonprofit organization that promotes recreational boating safety and supports educational programs. The group is also having an ongoing can drive. Anyone interested may bring soda and beer cans to the auxiliary building, where there is a marked garbage can. For information, call Bill at 596-9396.

Scuba lessons begin this week at YMCA
Scuba lessons for adults and youth 12 and older will be offered from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting this week, at the Hernando County Family YMCA, 1300 Mariner Blvd. The course includes six class and pool sessions. The cost is $120 for YMCA facility and program members and $140 for nonmembers, payable to the YMCA. There is a fee of $60 for use of scuba equipment, payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Participants must have a mask, fins and a snorkel.
