Captain's Corner

Spring kings:Anglers fishing off Sarasota County have been steadily catching kingfish, with scattered reports off Pinellas the past two weeks. Following their migration:It's common to have hundreds in a single school. They don't necessarily settle in areas that hold baitfish at the beginning of the spring run. Artificial trollers seem to have the best luck locating big schools. The fish will be starving from their long journey. Anything that wiggles will get devoured. Here today, gone tomorrow:After a short stay at one location, the school will vanish. Once water tops 70 degrees, more kings will arrive, settling in for longer periods. Arterial reefs are great places to start.
