Pasco-Hernando Community College students who are learning to become teachers will get some real-life experience in several Pasco schools starting this spring. Teacher candidates will get to work alongside experienced teachers at Cypress Elementary, Hudson Middle and River Ridge High schools under an agreement reached with the Pasco County School District last month. The teachers-in-training and their mentors will focus on identifying and meeting students' diverse learning needs, especially in the areas of reading, Exceptional Student Education and English for Speakers of Other Languages. The Educator Preparation Institute at PHCC provides alternative certification for people with bachelor's degrees who want to go into teaching. Classes for the next cohort of aspiring teachers begin April 2. For information call 1-877-TRY-PHCC or visit phcc.edu/epi.
