Hillsborough prosecutor's mother dies

TAMPA - Hillsborough State Attorney Mark Ober's mother, who campaigned for her son and held the Bible when he was sworn into office, died Saturday. Maridale "Dale" Ober, 83, had battled amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease. She moved in with her son 14 months ago so he could care for her. When she was hospitalized in recent weeks, the prosecutor set up a remote office by her bedside. Hillsborough Circuit Judge Manuel Lopez also lost his mother over the weekend. Frances Lopez, 88, had been in a coma since her heart stopped a month ago. She was a receptionist for the State Attorney's Office during Harry Lee Coe's tenure.
