TAMPA - USF coach Jim Leavitt filled the last opening on his staff Monday, hiring South Carolina State defensive coordinator John Hendrick to coach the defensive tackles. Hendrick, 48, whose interest in joining USF was first reported in Wednesday's Times, worked with Leavitt at Kansas State in 1991-92. He spent last season at SCSU after four years as head coach at Division II Benedict College in Columbia, S.C. "John Hendrick is another talented and trusted assistant coach and we are fortunate that he is joining our staff," Leavitt said in a statement. "He has been a good friend for many years and I have always admired his work ethic and coaching pedigree." Greg Auman, Times staff writer
