DADE CITY The Can-Am Flying Club of Dade City will be hosting a remote-control Helicopter Fly-In on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Competitors from different states will be competing in pattern flying, and there will be food available. The event will be held off McKendree Drive, just east of Interstate 75 at the State Road 52 exit. Spectators should follow the signs. For information, call 813 715-7133. COUNTYWIDE Candidate might need a proofreader Sure, it's rough to run for the School Board. Folks pore over your record and your positions, and you've got to get the word out any way you can to generate support. One easy effort is to put out news releases for reporters to disseminate. That's considered free publicity (as opposed to the paid advertisement kind). The downside is that we actually look closely at the news releases and related documents. And sometimes we find things that candidates don't necessarily intend. Like spelling errors. Consider Pasco School Board hopeful Peter Hanzel's latest release, posted on his Web site. On it, Hanzel calls for Pasco board meetings to be "telivised." He proposes "agricultural educatonal programs" for all grade levels. And he pledges to always listen to parents, students, teachers and "administers." One last thing. He says the district must prepare all students for "collge." NEW PORT RICHEY New power lines will be discussed Progress Energy will hold two meetings in March to discuss its plans to expand power lines through the county. The proposed options include new or expanded lines through west Pasco, the Starkey Wilderness Park or along the Suncoast Parkway. Anyone interested can attend. The meetings will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, March 12 and 13, at the Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave., New Port Richey, and will last from 4 to 8 p.m. You can reach Progress at energyplanning@pgnmail.com or leave a message at (888) 238-0373.
