Northside not revealing coach
Northside athletic director Raul Hernandez said a football coach has been hired to replace Bob Dare, but the school is not revealing his name until March 15.
That's when the school board is expected to complete its investigation in the dismissal of Dare as football coach and vice principal-dean of students.
"We want to wait until then to make everything official," Hernandez said.
On Feb. 7, Northside Christian announced through an e-mail to parents and faculty members that it had removed Dare, but school administrators have not given specifics as to why he was let go.
Two weeks later, Northside's board of directors issued another e-mail saying the school planned to review its decision regarding Dare.
Hernandez, though, said he started the search for a new coach in December.
"I had to get the process going because I didn't want to wait until April or even longer and not have a new coach in place," Hernandez said.
Dare refused to comment.
SPC to appeal postseason ban
St. Petersburg Catholic ADJohn Gerdes said the school plans to appeal the Florida High School Athletic Association's football ban June 12-14 in Jacksonville. In May 2006, SPC received a three-year postseason ban and $13,000 fine for recruiting and illegal practices. The school paid the fine but appealed the probation, which then included no jamborees or spring practices until the '09 season. The FHSAA allowed SPC to hold preseason classics and spring games starting last season.
