Skateboarder hit retrieving board in street

CLEARWATER A 14-year-old boy was injured Wednesday when he was struck by a car while retrieving his skateboard from the street. The boy, Benjamin Eshtamoa, was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with injuries that weren't life-threatening, according to Clearwater police. The incident occurred at 1:13 p.m. at 1352 Overlea Street. The driver, Jordan Thacker, 18, told detectives he tried to swerve to avoid hitting Eshtamoa, but the pedestrian tried to dodge the car in the same direction. Charges in the case are pending. Humane Society needs volunteers The Humane Society of Pinellas, 3040 State Road 590 in Clearwater, is looking for volunteers to assist with its adoption center, special events and to work with dogs. There are also limited opportunities for teen volunteers ages 16-18 to assist kennel staff. A volunteer introduction session is required and scheduled on the first Saturday of each month for adults and on the fourth Tuesday for teens.
