Cheerleading championships fast facts

Hear the cheers What: The FHSAA competitive cheerleading championships When: Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. Where: FAU Arena, Boca Raton Skinny: This is the first year competitive cheerleading is being recognized as a sport by the Florida High School Athletic Association, and the state meet is open to all teams. Schools are divided by squad size, whether it's all-female or coed. There also is a nontumbling classification. Twenty-five county schools are scheduled to compete, and all schools in Hillsborough County are limited to 20 in a squad, meaning the highest classification county schools will compete in is the large varsity category, the second-largest classification.
