TRINITY - Countryside knows when it jogs out of the dugout each night it's stepping into another tough night.
This rematch at Mitchell was pushed to Wednesday thanks to a rainout and the Cougars would benefit in a 4-0 win.
Countryside 10-1 got another solid start from freshman ace Alyssa Bache, who has won all six of her games, allowing two hits and striking out 10 against Mitchell (8-2). Bache seemed most effective putting movement on the ball with six of her strikeout victims looking at strike three.
Countryside broke through in the fourth inning when Cougars freshman Ayanna Andrews hit a fly ball to leftfield. Mustangs centerfielder Tenisha Dixon ran in calling off the leftfielder, but it popped out of her glove, allowing Devika Chew - a courtesy runner for Desiree Baker - to score from second.
Baker had a stomach flu Tuesday and might not have been able to play. She finished Wednesday's game with a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Mitchell squandered an offensive opportunity in the bottom of the fourth with runners on first and second. Mustangs cleanup hitter Olivia Kline smacked a single through the left side and coach Scott Bisbe waved Ally Summers around third base, but she was thrown out before she could reach home plate. Countryside catcher Gia Tomossone then turned and threw out Heather Muccino trying to make it from second to third for the final out.
The Cougars blew the game open in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs on hits by Tomossone, Baker and Andrews.
Kline picked up her first loss despite throwing six strikeouts and allowing four walks, making her 3-1.
