HUDSON - The West Pasco Quilters' Guild will exhibit more than 400 quilts of all sizes, shapes and colors today through Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Park on Hicks Road.
"Sew Many Quilts 2008 - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" will be the largest show in the guild's 20-year history, according to Robby Wargny, the show's co-chairwoman and publicist for the 300-member organization. The shows are every other year, so this is the group's 10th show.
The shows have drawn thousands of buyers, admirers and quilters over the years and raised more than $210,000 for local charities, Ms. Wargny said.
The event includes a large quilt auction at 2 p.m. Sunday, a silent auction for a small quilt that ends at 2 p.m. Sunday, and a drawing for the award-winning "Floral Fantasy 2008" hand appliqued and hand quilted quilt at noon Sunday.
The show also has special exhibits, an antique quilt exhibit, a boutique featuring quilted items, quilt appraisers, door prizes, and 15 quilt supplies vendors.
Among the highlights for quilting enthusiasts are hour-long classes, lectures and videos presented by experts in various quilting fields throughout all three days. The schedule goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Saturday and 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday.
Subjects range from "For the Love of Applique" at 11 a.m. today to "Mile A Minute Scrap Quilt" at 10 a.m. Saturday to "French Boutis" at 10 a.m. Sunday, with talks on quilt history, Round Robin Quilts, Ikebana Japanese flower arranging, beading, embellishments, threads and other subjects in between.
The members' quilts were recently featured at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center in "Celebrate the Quilt!"
