More than 50 people called the Humane Society of Tampa Bay on Thursday after reading a Times story about 12-year-old dogs Dexter and Avery , whose owner recently lost his home to foreclosure.
Avery was adopted late Wednesday; her brother, Dexter, is still available. Several people said they were interested, and shelter officials remain hopeful he will be adopted soon. Animal shelters are seeing an influx of animals whose owners have lost their homes and can't bring pets to an apartment or relative's home.
