A record crowd saw the Wesley Chapel Flames, a youth soccer club, go 6-0 in tournament play and advance to the third round.
According to the Florida Youth Soccer Association and Region C officials, the crowd of 7,500 spectators was the largest soccer attendance at a Pasco County venue ever.
The Flames defeated Plant City, Clearwater, South Hillsborough, Cape Coral and Lakeland to advance to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.
The Flames are 18-1-1 since the regular season started, have won 15 in a row and posted five shutouts in their last 10 games. The Wesley Chapel Soccer Club will host the Division 2 under 10 and 11 and Division 1 under 12 quarter finals March 8-9.
Graduating seniors are encouraged to apply for various scholarships awarded by the Florida Youth Soccer Association. After filling out the application online at the Region C page of FYSA.com, students are to send letters of reference, transcripts, resume of accomplishments, and a short essay about oneself and future plans.
There will be scholarships available for one boy and one girl in each district in Region C in the name of Donna Hackworth. There will be two scholarships awarded, for one boy and one girl, regionwide in the name of Norman Rosen, which includes registration for the FYSA AGM to receive the award, and four high-level scholarships in the name of Joe Davis.
