Riverview High School students are learning how to run a business and make connections in the world through the school's applied technology class.

Students are learning how to make banners, yard signs and silk screen T-shirts; embroider;apply binding and finishing; and several other printing-related tasks.

Their projects include work for youth soccer leagues, Scout groups, construction companies and other groups at the school.

Students are looking for ways to develop industry contacts not only for jobs and projects, but also for job shadowing, internships and possible part-time jobs.

Durant High has a similar program. Both schools offer reduced prices on their products, and the business benefits the school and students.

Call Riverview High at 671-5012 or Durant at 757-9075 for more information.

Spotlights chorus performs at Disney

Brandon Academy's middle school chorus, the Spotlights, recently performed at Walt Disney World's Singabration.

Singabration is a Disney production that celebrates freedom, unity and a sense of accomplishment through service to others. This is the fourth year Brandon Academy Spotlights have participated.

Headed by Becky Lawrence, in her eighth year as Brandon Academy's music director, the Spotlights spent two days in February rehearsing and performing throughout Disney World. Highlights included a performance with 26 other groups in front of Cinderella's Castle, and a service project to benefit Ronald McDonald House.
