Home Front: Stow trash in recycled plastic

The Garbino waste can in blackand green, designed by Karim Rasheed, is now made entirely of recycled/recyclable plastic. (All other colors of the Garbino are biodegradable.) It's about $6.50 at retailers such as Bed Bath and Beyond (a store finder is at umbra.com). Later this month themanufacturer will introduce the desktop Garbini (about $5), to hold pens and other small items. It's made of compostable and recyclable corn plastic.

Parades give a peek inside new homes

Parades of Homes continue. The Tampa Bay BuildersAssociation parade (Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas; tampabayparadeofhomes.com)runs through March 16, as do the parades in Citrus (citrus paradeofhomes.com) and Hernando (hernandobuilders.com). Today and Sunday are the last days in Manatee-Sarasota (paradeofhomesinfo.com).

Arson destroys green homes

Three multimillion-dollar homes were destroyed and two others damaged Monday in a suspicious fire near Seattle. The homes were part of a "Street of Dreams" showcase of luxury homes that closed last June and were for sale. A spray-painted sign at the site, bearing the initials of the radical environmental Earth Liberation Front, challenged builders' assertions that the homes featured environmentally responsible construction methods.

Peruse products for your home

Florida's Largest Spring Home Show continues from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the Florida State Fairgrounds on U.S. 301 in Tampa. Tickets: adults, $8; seniors 55 and older, $7; children under 12 free. See more than 950 exhibits, including hurricane products, new appliances, green tech and a 60-inch poolside plasma TV.
