Police identify victim in fatal sr 50 collsion

BROOKSVILLE
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a rollover accident on State Road 50 on Friday afternoon as Henry L. Gager.
A resident of 12429 Ponce De Leon Boulevard in Brooksville, Gager, 42, was killed when he was ejected from his Toyota sport utility vehicle.
Gager was driving east on State Road 50 when a Dodge truck driven by Brittany Huston, 16, of 5304 California St., Brooksville, pulled onto State Road 50 and struck his vehicle, sending it out of control. The vehicle rolled twice ejecting Gager, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Huston, who suffered minor injuries, faces charges of violation of right of way, according to the highway patrol report.

Shrine Club's auction to benefit hospital
The annual Hernando County Shrine Club Auction will be at 6 p.m. April 5 at the facility at 13400 Montour St.
Donations for the auction are appreciated. Items do not need to be new, but need to be in good condition.
Donations can be dropped off at the facility from 10 a.m. to noon on any Saturday prior to the auction. For pick-ups, call Jack at 666-4980 or Fred at 597-1703.
Auction items will be available for preview from noon to 6 p.m. on the event day. Refreshments will be available.
All proceeds will go to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa, which treated 341 children from Hernando County in 2007, free of charge, for orthopedic problems and burn injuries.
SPRING HILL
Learn grant writing at Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club of Hernando County will host a grant writing workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 29 at the club, 5404 Applegate Drive.
Staff from nonprofit organizations, churches, government agencies and teachers from public and private schools can attend and learn the nine components of a successful grant proposal.
The class will be taught by Barbara Sweinberg, who has conducted grant writing workshops for more than 30 years and offers a 16-hour class through the Hernando County School's Adult Education Program at Nature Coast Technical High School.
The cost is $50 for those who register by March 22 an additional $10 will be charged to those who register at the door.
A pizza lunch will be provided for an additional $5.
Funds raised will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Hernando County.

Tickets available for auction and dinner
The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary 11317 will host the 13th annual Auction and Dinner March 29 at the St. Joan of Arc parish hall, 13485 Spring Hill Drive.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be at 6 p.m.
The menu will include a fresh fruit cup, roast pork entree, vegetable medley, scalloped potatoes, hard roll with butter, apple crumb cake, tea and coffee.
Wine and soda will be available for an additional cost.
Tables of eight can be reserved. Tickets are $12 each and must be purchased by March 22.

Entry is open for the Bang-Bang tourney
The Hernando Builders Association will host the second annual Sporting Clays Bang-Bang Tournament April 12 at Deer Creek Sporting Clays Range, 10514 Ehren's Cutoff Road.
There will be four shooters per team. The entry fee is $99 per shooter, which includes a catered lunch on site. Raffles and awards will immediately follow the event.
The deadline for entries and payments is March 14.
Shooters must wear eye and ear protection at all times on the course.
Shooters will need 100 rounds of ammo, sizes 7.5, 8 or 9 shotgun shells only.
Deer Creek will have a limited number of shotguns and carts available to rent.
Sponsorships are also available from $50 to $1,500. Door prizes are also available.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches.

Golf tournament to benefit hospice
The Silverthorn Country Club Golf Associations invites area golfers to participate in the 11th annual Cancer Awareness Tournament on April 17 to benefit Hernando-Pasco Hospice.
The tournament is sponsored by State Farm Insurance Agents of Hernando County and will be at the Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane.
There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $80 per golfer, which includes golf, lunch and prizes. Non-golfers can pay $35 for the luncheon.
Twenty percent of tournament and luncheon fees will be tax-deductible donations to HPH.
Hole sponsorships are available. And, for $100, individuals or businesses can dedicate a hole in memory of a loved one.

Big Brothers Big Sisters needs bowlers
The annual Bowl For Kids' Sake to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters will be at 1 p.m. May 3 at Mariner Lanes, 3544 Mariner Blvd.
Teams of five bowlers are needed for the event.
All bowlers are asked to raise a minimum of $120 each. Individual awards include a Bowl for Kids' Sake 2008 T-shirt for those who raise at least $120, and those who raise at least $250 will also get a Bowl For Kids' Sake baseball cap.
Awards will be given to the teams that raise the most money.
Every $1,000 raised will help match a child with a Big Brother or Big Sister and provide professional support for that match for one year.
