LARGO - Larry McManning was arrested Sunday for the seventh time since 1981 on charges of sexual abuse or indecent exposure.

McManning, 52, is a registered sex offender who served nine years in prison in the 1990s for lewd and lascivious assault on a child.

He was released from jail just two months ago after spending about three years in jail on similar charges.

McManning's most recent arrest occurred Sunday after a Pinellas sheriff's sergeant in an unmarked cruiser saw him loitering on Ulmerton Road, sheriff's officials said.

McManning ran to his red van and tried to drive away, but was pulled over by other deputies. Two women approached deputies and said he had exposed himself to them.

McManning faces charges of exposing sexual organs, loitering and prowling and fleeing police. He was held at the Pinellas County Jail on Monday in lieu of $16,000 bail.

McManning's troubles began in 1981, when he was arrested for indecent exposure in Clearwater. A year later, he was arrested for committing a lewd act in the presence of a girl under 14.

McManning pleaded no contest and was sentenced to a year in jail.

He was arrested for indecent exposure again in 1988 and received another year in jail.

Two years later, McManning was arrested again on charges of indecent exposure and lewd behavior in the presence of a child. He was sentenced to 12 years and six months.

He was released in June 1999, but was arrested the next month on two more charges of lewd and lascivious behavior in front of a child. However, prosecutors did not pursue those charges and he was released after serving 17 days in jail.

McManning's arrest history also includes charges of night prowling, robbery and drug possession.
